This key is renowned for its fauna, both terrestrial and marine.
In the Sabana-Camaguey Archipelago, we find the most important colony of pink flamingos in the Caribbean. In addition, its terrestrial fauna is characterized by a great variety of polymites, hutias, deer, wild pigs and bovines, peacocks, gulls, pelikans, the Cuban trogon (Cuban national bird), and the exotic "negrito" an elegant singing bird of the zone.
Its rich sea wild life is marked mainly by the presence between the key and Santa Lucía beach of the largest and most varied coral formation in Cuba, and one of the largest of the world, besides the countless species inhabiting its waters such as a great variety of turtles, and colorful fish.
